I’m competing in the Milliners of Etsy challenge to create a hat ‘inspired by a movie’. The deadline is the 1st of June.
I love watching films so I’m loving this theme, the problem is choosing which one I want to use. This is why I need your help, please suggest a film that you think would give inspiration for a fabulous hat!
Here’s some that I like. Film-noir thrillers like ‘Dark Passage’ with Bogart and Bacall.
‘Bringing Up Baby’ with Katherine Hepburn & Carry Grant
‘Some like it hot’
Anything with Ginger Rogers! This is ‘It Had To Be You’.
‘Bachelor Mother’
‘Lady In The Dark’ (fabulous dream sequences)
‘The Red Shoes’
Anything directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This is ‘Rebecca’.
Big number spectaculars like ‘How To Marry A Millionaire’ with Monroe, Bacall & Grable or ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’ with Monroe & Jane Russell
The brilliantly disturbing ‘Whatever Happened To Baby Jane’ with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford at their acting best.
Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s', ‘Charade’, ‘Funny Face’, ‘Wait Until Dark’, ‘My Fair Lady’, etc.!
I love anything created by Tim Burton
I’ve always been madly in love with John Cusack and I love Edgar Allan Poe’s stories so maybe ‘The Raven’ but I haven’t seen it yet.
A couple come to mind at the moment….
Throughly Modern Millie-Julie Andrewas-1967
Mame- with Lucy Ball-1974 ( better costumes) than Rosalind Russell production
What a way to go- with Shirley MacLaine- Edith head costumes- 1964
Coco Chanel – Shirley MacLaine-2008
Or anything where Edith Head was the costume designer.
Those are just a few that come to mind. If I can think of more I will post them for you.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Yes I love Edith Head costumes, I did my fashion history thesis on her in college. She made the amazing costumes for ‘Lady in The Dark’ & alot of Ginger Rogers films. She was one of Hitchcock’s favourite designers and he used her in many movies inc. ‘Rear Window’, ‘To Catch A Thief’ & ‘The Birds’. Audrey Hepburn movies inc.’Roman Holiday’.
Some others examples of her best were ‘The Lady Eve’ with Barbara Stanwyck (1941), ‘The Stork Club’ (1945), ‘Samson & Delilah’ (1949) Hedy Lamarr & ‘All About Eve’ Bette Davis (1950).
The 1920′s style is huge right now as well (‘The Artist’) or maybe something off the wall like ‘Mirror Mirror’ which I haven’t seen yet.
Any more suggestions anyone?
Titanic, not really a fan of the flm but plenty of scoop for wonderful headwear.
That’s a good one Tracy especially with the new TV series ‘Titanic’ which aired the first episode last night on TV3. Thanks. Any more anyone?
